A Mississippi man is facing serious felony hit and run charges after causing the death of a pedestrian in Douglas County, Georgia. The driver, Joshua Walker, 21, was returning home from work at 1 a.m. with his brother when he struck twenty-seven-year-old Luther Daron Wortham, Jr., who had also been working that night at a nearby apartment complex.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) report that besides medical malpractice that result in a wrongful death, over 6,000 people die every year directly related to occupational work hazards and thousands die due to common place slip and fall injuries.

The Georgia Office of Highway Safety reports that motorcycle accident fatalities have shown a rise over the past 15-years, and it continues to be a growing problem in Georgia. The numbers indicate the biggest increase of motorcycle accident fatalities has risen 59% between 2004 and 2008.

In Georgia, the most common premises liability claim filed is for a slip or trip that results in a fall with injury. The National Floor Safety Institute (NFSI) reports that there are over 25,000 slip and fall accidents that occur every day in the United States and over 1-million slip and fall accidents a year that require a trip to the emergency room or doctor’s office.

In Atlanta and the surrounding cities and towns, it has become all too common to hear of a motorcycle accident with the rider suffering serious injury or death. Very often the incident report places the blame on a driver who just “did not see” the bike and crashed into them, or the report may leave it more open, stating that the “rider lost control of their motorcycle.”

The United States Consumer Product Safety Commission, or CPSC, works to protect the public from injury or death from thousands of products that may be associated with product failure. The CPSC may call for a product recall, send out public notices and warnings about products that can pose a mechanical, electrical, or chemical hazard, cause a fire, or have a design or materials flaw that can cause injury or death.
